Resolution

Boy I can't seem to keep up these days. But here's me finally making an effort.

This is a new years decoration that many people hand on doors or gates outside their homes. You can see a crane and red/white ropes, which are both considered to bring luck.

I thought this photos was appropriate since my new years resolution this year is to write more letters. Especially to my grandma, who is currently living alone. She likes to see pictures of us grandkids and says that letters are better than phone calls because you can read them over and over again. I actually told her that she could record our phone calls and listen to it again...but she wasn't too keen on that idea. haha.

So this here is my resolution, and I'm writing it out on this blog so I won't forget. Going to start that letter right now...!

Hope you're all having a great start to the week!

  1. I hope you sent her the photo of you in kimono below. She would surely like that. Did you tell her about the Okinawa festival in Shinjuku in summer?

You might mention that some guy in California, who visits your blog, read, enjoyed, and learned something from Tomiko Higa's book about Okinawa of the Pacific War titled "The Girl with the White Flag" (the English version that I read can be found here).

He has this book around somewhere but he has yet to read it.

I'll bet she would really love it if you added some of your artwork, no matter what, using your Muji marker pens, or anything.

  3. That photo is very striking with the red and white crane set off by the green, horizontally lined background. And what an awesome resolution to make! I know that will bring so much joy to your grandmother! My grandmother is about to turn 90 in a few weeks and we are planning a surprise birthday party for her. We all want to stand up at the party and say good things about her to honor her in her presence since we have recently had to do it for a family member who had already passed away. - We love quoting from Forrest Gump! You would not believe how often we get to say, "But you ain't got no legs, Lieutenant Dan!" in regular conversations.

  4. No voice recordings for your grandma? No following your fantastic blog? You had me LOL, Kaori. I avoid resolutions, especially those made at this time of the year. Seeing your title I was afraid you had resolved to blog more and I cringed... better this stays FUN and not an obligation, hey? But resolving to write your grandma more often is so very very nice. Why not buy a big stack of lovely cards and write her a few sentences while you eat lunch each day (or M-W-D) and mail them? That's a sweet decoration... is that on your door?

  8. I think that's a great resolution. One of mine is to use my time more wisely (i.e. not sit around on the computer all day). So far I've been ok with it. Maybe I need one of these wreaths to motivate me though. This one is really pretty!

  9. Welcome back! ;) I missed my daily dose of Kaori, especially photos with such a perfect composition as this one. The colour combination is beautiful.

I used to write to my mother, but she says she prefers calls because she wants to hear my voice. Hmmm. You've given me an idea. I should record a CD for her. Hmmm.
