Winking Witch

This was suppose to be my Halloween photo but I forgot to post it. But it was too cute to pass up so I'm posting it anyway!

This is the bakery shop Johan located inside Shinjuku Mitsukoshi Alcott, a shopping mall close to Shinjuku Station. They had a lot of Halloween themed pastries and bread that looked really good.

But this little witch caught my eye!

Don't you love the cute expressions on each face? It kind of reminded me of the witch in training from the movie "Kiki's Delivery Service." Have you seen it?

It's my favorite Studio Ghibli animation so if you haven't seen it, I hope you'll get a chance to. And don't worry, unlike my photo today, it's not a film about Halloween so you can watch it any time of the year!

  2. Those are adorable! They remind me of the squishy buns that my daughter is into. She calls them "squishies." They look edible but are made of squishy plastic and hers smells like chocolate. I think they come from Japan. Have you seen them?

  5. I have most of the Ghibli's production, but I am not sure to remember this character... I'll ask my son, the expert!

  7. I’ll have to get out my boxed set of Ghibli films and watch “Kiki” again soon. I can’t imagine finding better munchies than your “Winking Witches” to join me though.

I like the music in “Totoro”; the scene of Kichijoi Station in “Ocean Waves”; some of the jaw-dropping artwork in “Spirited Away; “Porco Rosso” in general...

By the way, it isn’t related to this post but I remembered VP being curious about the underground flood control system in Tokyo when I saw this today.

  9. 「まじょの宅急便」は大好きです。I don't know how many times I have seen it - a movie (plus other favourite Miyazaki's) that I watch over and over again, to hopefully learn some Japanese。キキは可愛いですけど、ジジがはあまり好きじゃない。。。あなたの写真を楽しみました。有難う。

  10. I was surprised to find out via IMDB “Trivia” that the four-engine biplane at the beginning was a real airplane. There were eight of them.
