The Gucci store in Shinjuku underwent a full-scale renovation and re-opened on September 17th.
To celebrate it's opening, a famous manga artist named Hirohiko Araki is collaborating with Gucci and releasing a short story manga called "Rohan Kishibe goes to Gucci." Rohan Kishibe is a character in one of Araki's manga series, "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (ジョジョの奇妙な冒険)."
There is also a gallery on the third floor of this building with his manga artwork but you can also see an animated version of the fall collection in the display window of the Gucci store.
Those are some bright, colorful characters!
ReplyDeleteWow - what wonderful shots. Love the perspective of the first photo.
ReplyDeleteThat looks very entertaining!
ReplyDeleteInteresting displays. Not sure that they would tempt me to buy. But definitely I'd have to take a second look!
ReplyDeleteThe big fashion houses go all out in their window displays, great shots Kaori.
ReplyDeleteI loooove this kind of funky window!
ReplyDeleteSo vibrant and colorful. The animétor must have socked a lot away into his retirement fund from his take.
ReplyDeleteA couple levels down below at this Takano Building, two decades ago, I got a bit animated for a short time when Takano had some international beers on offer. Czech Republic Budweiser (Budvar) was so good.
Is there any Gucci better than this variety? I wonder.
That second shot is super spectacular.
ReplyDeleteWow, I've never associated Gucci with cool...
ReplyDeletewow, the details are interesting Kaori.
ReplyDeletesuch a gr8 artist and designing a manga story for gucci,.. another wow!
What is manga? Is there also a womanga?
ReplyDeleteLove the lively colors & animation!
How creative and fun! And like Evelyn said, I never thought of Gucci as cool either. They might just have something here by appealing to the younger generation or it could turn off their older, richer clientele. Either way, it's got people's attention. I like the last photo the best. Are those characters printed on acrylic?
ReplyDeleteHi everyone and thanks for all the comments! This display was actually very popular and a lot of people were there taking photos like me ;D
ReplyDeleteCafeP -- hehe! "Manga" refers to Japanese animations, mainly comic books. So these characters decorating the windows would be referred to as "manga" characters. I'm going to have to remember the "Womanga" though ;D
Rachel -- I'm actually not sure if it was acrylic or not. But just looking at the photos I'm thinking maybe not :-)
Gorgeous! I like this display and my son is still a fanatic reader of Manga...
ReplyDeleteWow, that's quite the display!
ReplyDeleteCreative and beautiful. I love the photo with the business men looking at the display. Of course they are standing with the briefcases....
ReplyDeleteVP -- I'd heard manga is quite popular in Europe these days! It's a big part of our culture :D
ReplyDeleteBecky -- I know, I was blinded by the bright colors, too! ;D
Pat -- Haha, yes! I wasn't going to include them but they made such an interesting picture! They were all taking pictures with their smartphones :-D
