Or at least, I think it's a butterfly. I heard that when they stop somewhere and their wings are open, then it's a moth, and if they close, they're a butterfly.
Very special looking butterfly-moth there Kaori. I viewed it in large... it's like camel-colored velvet! Will be later for an update on the butterfly-moth dilemma. :) Have a nice evening!
Kaori, I just noticed I don’t know how to distinguish a butterfly and a moth! If it seems to be furry, I just think it is a moth. Or moths like flames and light, I guess. Your way to distinguish them by observing their wings open or close is very interesting. Oh, now I am in dilemma situation as Montreal mentioned. Thanks a lot for posting such an interesting theme!! Have a great day!
Beautiful, don't know much of moths and butterflies. Our Puccini wrote 'Madama Butterfly', not 'Madama Moth', so I think the moth is quite less interesting... (I am obviously joking!)
Ok, I got curious and tried to look it up. I guess that's a moth... maybe, but I am still unsure... Here's a simple write-up of the difference which I found: http://library.thinkquest.org/J002124/moths.htm You are right about the wings' resting position... what do you think?
Hi everyone! Thanks so much for the comments! I've been kind of busy and haven't been able to reply to the comments...but hoping to have more time for that soon :D
So I guess we're all not really sure if it's a butterfly or moth? It looks like a moth to me, but with the wing-rule it may be a moth-like-butterfly. Hmmm...

Pretty upbeat way to begin a week.

Well, I don't know either but I'd say a moth... Lovely shots, both of them!

or maybe it's a butterfly after all... just one that is not so colourful. Looking at the antenna and wings postion...
ReplyDeleteI just heard the same thing the other day! I don't know the answer but it seems to make sense! Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteI don't know the answer, but I like the photos!
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question, my Greece photo was not sepia, it was just a badly faded color print from almost 40 years ago!
Well spotted ! Beautiful macro !

Put me in the crowd of know-nothings! I'd say it's a moth, but wouldn't put money on it. Lovely shots, though.
ReplyDeleteI like your title!
